Pakistan's squad for the upcoming tour of West Indies 2013 - Shahid Afridi has been recalled

Pakistan cricket selectors have recalled former captain Shahid Afridi for a one-day series in West Indies but senior players Imran Farhat, Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal have been dropped for poor displays in last month’s ICC Champions Trophy in England. Besides Ahmad Shahzad and Umar Akmal, the selectors have also included uncapped Haris Sohail, Zulfiqar Babar and wicketkeeper Rizwan Ahmad in the ODI and T20 squads. Pakistan play five ODIs and two T20 matches on the tour this month. “We have started our rebuilding process keeping the 2015 World Cup in mind,” chief selector Iqbal Qasim told a news conference

Experienced all-rounder Afridi, who has played 354 one-day internationals, was left out of the Champions Trophy squad but Qasim said the 33-year-old would be useful in the rebuilding process. “The pitches in West Indies are also doubled paced and low bounced and Afridi can not only shore up the lower order but also be effective as a bowler on such pitches.”

Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail and uncapped wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan have also been drafted in to the 50-over side with Shoaib Malik the other major exclusion alongside Kamran.

Zulfiqar Babar will get his chance to make his Pakistan debut at the age of 34 after he was included in the Twenty20 squad.

The first one-day international will take place at Guyana on July 14 with the opening Twenty20 at St Vincent on July 27.

Misbahul Haq will lead the one-day team while Mohammad Hafeez will skipper the Twenty20 side. Qasim said the 16-man one-day and 15-member T20 squads were selected after discussion with the team management. “We have selected separate squads after consultation with Misbah and coach Dav Whatmore and we hope that it will do well,” said Qasim.
