PCB unlikely to trial pink balls in night matches against Aussies
The use of white balls is likely to be continued for the forthcoming matches between Pakistan and Australia in August-September 2012.
The cricket committees of the ICC and the MCC have been in favour of using pink balls for day-night matches and the Pakistan Cricket Board has already announced the schedule of the matches that will have late-evening start to avoid UAE daytime heat.
“It’s a PCB series, you need to ask them”, Peter Young, the CA General Manager (Public Affairs) said from Melbourne.
“Of course, we will continue with the white balls. The playing conditions are being worked out”, Intikhab Alam, the PCB official said to this scribe.
The ODIs are scheduled to begin at 6pm local time, and end at 1.45am the following morning. The Twenty20s that follow are set to begin at 8pm and end at 11.
“The series in question is a Pakistan series to which they have invited us. You should direct questions on issues such as potentialpublic interest to them”, Young further added.
“CA has liaised with the players and with their representative association as part of the planning for this series”.
“We will also be travelling to the UAE with the players’ association to do the normal pre-tour inspection that we undertake before every Australian tour to any part of the world. That travel will be in the next fortnight”, he further said.
“Now that the PCB has finalised dates, venues and playing times, CA will be moving to finalise arrangements for our UAE game against Afghanisatan which we will play immediately before the Pakistan games”, Young signed off.
